Al Bowden is a member of the Senior Executive Service and was recruited to the position of Deputy Chief Information Officer for Information Assurance and Chief Information Security Officer for the Department in June of 2016. In these roles, he is responsible for the implementation of the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and for establishing and maintaining the enterprise vision, strategy, and programs that ensure information assets and technologies are adequately protected.

Mr. Bowden has nearly 30 years of experience managing worldwide Information Technology (IT) networks, operations, programs, and projects for corporate, military, and government entities. In his previous role as the Director of the Enterprise Network Management (ENM) Office he managed an $80 million IT investment portfolio to operate and maintain network communications for 300 sites around the world, including embassies, consulates, annexes, and missions to international organizations.

Prior to joining the federal government, Mr. Bowden was Senior Systems Delivery Manager for Management Technology, supervising the assembly, integration, and testing of specialized telecommunications systems. In addition, Mr. Bowden proudly served in the United States Army including service during Operation Desert Storm.
