
Nicholas Spyridon Kass is a Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of State’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO).
Mr. Kass brings more than 30 years of foreign policy experience to CSO. Before assuming his current position, he was Director for European Affairs (2019-2020, 1999-2001) and Director for Intelligence Programs (2006-2008) at the National Security Council. He served as Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Europe (2018-2019) and senior analyst for Aegean/Eastern Mediterranean and Kurdish issues at the National Intelligence Council. Mr. Kass also served as a Legislative Affairs Officer (2004-2006), Deputy Political Counselor (2001-2003) and Political Officer (1995-1998) at the Department of State at U.S. Embassy Ankara, Turkey, and at the Central Intelligence Agency.
Mr. Kass holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America; a Master of Arts in Government from Georgetown University; and a Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University. Mr. Kass is fluent in Turkish and Kurdish, and speaks Greek.
