Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs

Our Mission

The Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs serves as the lead policy maker for the Department’s overall public outreach and press strategies, whether conducted virtually or in-person. The Office of the Under Secretary handles all of the day-to-day matters of the Under Secretary, including meetings at the Department, functions in Washington and throughout the country, and travel around the world. The Under Secretariat team coordinates closely with the regional bureaus, functional bureaus, the interagency, the private sector, and international partners to ensure the Department’s public diplomacy and public affairs activities are consistent, forward looking, supportive of U.S. foreign policy, and grounded in research.
