International School Bangkok (ISB) was the first international school in Thailand. Founded in 1951, the school initially opened on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy. ISB is an independent, coeducational, inclusive, nonprofit day school offering an educational program for children ages 3-18 (PK – grade 12). The school year extends from approximately mid-August to early June and is divided into two semesters. A summer program is also offered.
Organization: ISB’s Board of Trustees consists of 11 elected persons and up to four appointed persons. The school encourages and benefits from active parent participation.
Curriculum: ISB is a learning-focused international school with a U.S. educational philosophy and curriculum, broadened and enriched with best practices from other nations. ISB offers a balanced program with a focus on the development of the whole student. ISB provides students with high standards of academic instruction, opportunities for service to others, and a well-rounded program of activities directed toward the development of their skills, talents, and self-confidence for lifelong learning. Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma, and students may also elect to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. At ISB, we provide support for a managed number of students with mild, moderate, and intensive learning needs, as well as for those who benefit from enrichment and acceleration opportunities. We are able to meet the needs of most students in the regular classroom with differentiated instruction through accommodations and consultation.
Faculty: In the 2020-2021 school year, there are 211 faculty members. All teachers at ISB are certified and average six years of experience at ISB, with approximately 75% holding advanced degrees.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, enrollment was 1652 (PK – Grade 12).
Facilities:Located just outside the center of Bangkok, the 37-acre campus is situated in a gated, family-oriented community where children can walk or ride their bikes to school. The school offers state-of-the-art facilities for academics, athletics, fine and performing arts, and other programs to support a high quality educational experience. ISB also has a 15-acre Environmental Wilderness Campus in Petchburi province.
