On behalf of the government of the United States and the American people, it is my pleasure to greet the people of Panama as you celebrate your 117th Independence Day.

Panama is one of our most important partners in advancing regional security, democracy, and prosperity.  Our more than 100-year-old friendship is underpinned by our shared history and values.

As the international community confronts the challenges of COVID-19, we reflect proudly upon our close cooperation with Panama to combat the pandemic.  We remain committed to strengthening economic ties and boosting U.S. investment in Panama in support of its economic recovery.  Panama and the United States will continue to stand together as champions of democracy in the region and defenders of human rights.

Looking forward to our continued strong partnership, I congratulate all Panamanian on this important occasion.
